I've been plugging away at this comic book for about forever or so, and it's starting to wear on me. Today I watched Jarhead, and wondered why I never ended up in some branch of the armed forces. Wait a second, I know why -- because I hate the government! If we had some other government - say, Canada's, for instance - I would have no reservations about joining the military. I could use the exercise.
Speaking of, last Friday and this Tuesday I did a little work for Four Star Courier Collective, which was my first experience working on an open channel radio. Josh Korby asked me on Friday morning, "So what color do you want to be?" Apparently, the nicked the colors-instead-of-numbers idea from some Milwaukee messengers. Korby is "green", Mike Morell is "navy," etc. JK was "chrome," so to be cheeky I said "ultraviolet." Pink kept calling me "violet" or "purple" on the radio, but someone needs to tell her that ultraviolet is NOT purple or violent - it's a whole 'nother color.
Anyway, I had fun playing messenger for a day and half, and they paid me pretty well for it, even though I didn't do half the runs I would have elsewhere. It just goes to show how crooked and greedy normal messenger companies are. If you're in any position to say so, get your company to use 4-Star.
The reason I posted this blog was that I was having a hard time drawing. I want to draw some character designs for the comic book, but every time I sketch a figure the proportions are all off. The nose and the eyes don't line up right - it's just one of those days that I can't seem to draw for shit. Maybe it's because I've been spending the last two weeks learning Blender
so I can render backgrounds instead of having to draw the same damn coliseum from different perspectives. It's neat, but doesn't take any hand-drawing skills.
I'm going to try setting up some basic character models with Makehuman. I've tried using Poser, and I've determined that Poser is stupid and just for people who want to make horrible 3D porn.
So I need to break through this artist-block. I played some bad-ass bass today with JK on drums, played with Sam's unbelievably cute cat, but what I really need to do is read some books. Books always inspire me to do creative things. So anyone have some good books to lend me?
